About this course
Tiger Shark Safety Diver is not a specialty you add to a logbook. It is training for divemasters and instructors who will hold responsibility for a group in the presence of large sharks. It builds on the Eco Diver specialty with confined water training, a substantial number of logged tiger shark dives, and evaluated dives under instructor supervision. The emphasis throughout is on positioning, group management, reading behaviour early, and handling a situation before it becomes one.
Who it is for
Working dive professionals — divemasters and instructors — who guide or supervise divers where tiger sharks are present, and who want the specific competence that this site demands rather than general shark awareness.
What you will learn
Manage a group safely and predictably in the presence of tiger sharks. Read tiger shark body language early and adjust the dive accordingly. Apply the positioning and spatial-awareness protocols used on this site. Run instructor-led interaction protocols, including escalation and exit. Demonstrate all of it under evaluation, in open water, on real dives.
What you need first
SSI Divemaster certification, or an equivalent professional-level certification. At least 18 years old. SSI Tiger Shark Eco Diver certification. A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.

Why train with us
This is a course built from doing the thing, in the place it is done. It is taught by instructors who run tiger shark dives in Fuvahmulah as their working week, and the protocols you learn are the ones actually in use here. Certification requires demonstrated mastery of every performance requirement under instructor supervision. There is no way to complete it by reading.
Common questions
- Can I take this without the Eco Diver course?
- No. Tiger Shark Eco Diver is a prerequisite, and so is a professional-level certification.
- How many dives are involved?
- Confined water training, at least 22 tiger shark open water dives, and 3 evaluated dives.
- Is there a final exam?
- Assessment is by evaluated open water dives against the performance requirements, supervised by your instructor.
- How long does it take?
- It depends on how quickly you accumulate the required dives, which is why we plan it with you rather than selling a fixed number of days.
